TOM HAGGARD…..
……. the celebrated West London mystic and recluse…….
…… recently astounded the world by getting married.
To celebrate the event, he wrote a poem…….
……. and asked The Shakespeare Code if we would like to publish it……
LIKE TO???
A new poem from Haggard is a literary event of international magnitude……
…….especially after nearly half a century of silence.
The Code feels honoured……
…….and humbled……
……..to have been chosen.
AN OLDER BRIDEGROOM TO HIS YOUNGER BRIDE
Silver turns my golden shaft
As ‘What has been’ dwarfs ‘What’s to be’…
But as we down our wedding draught,
(Shampers – stabilised by tea)
I make the vow men cannot make
While blood’s commotion stirs and mars:
To hold you till we both awake
And take our walk among the stars…

Just beautiful and what a lovely way to start their life together.
I’m not familiar with the poet. Can you tell a little about him?
This is a scintillating love poem. What an honour for the Code to have a new Tom Haggard poem published here! I really like the way the poet plays with age (the golden shaft turning silver, there’s more life behind than before, and the curious vow that young men in the heat of new love might falter in making.
Thank you Mystikel and richroach – you are true Brothers and Sisters of The Code. Brother Stewart.
